4.Major duties(effort)
Teaching(Associate Professor:40% Lecturer/Assistant Professor 30%)
(1)Teaching courses (such as Principles of Tourism, Tourist Behavior) in the Global Program of the Faculty of Tourism.
(2)Conducting various project-based courses and supervision of undergraduate theses (English).?
(3)Teaching courses in the Graduate School of Tourism (Masters), including Theoretical modules, Research skill modules, and elective subjects related to Tourism Management or Tourist Behavior. Ability to teach courses related to theoretical aspects of tourism studies and research methods is desirable.
(4)Conducting various project-based courses and supervision of research and Master’s dissertations (English).?
(5)Teaching courses in the PhD program and supervising PhD Dissertations (English).?
(6)Conducting courses related to Liberal Arts.?
* For (1)~(5)Teaching/supervision should be conducted in English.?
*(3)and (4) are only applicable when the appointment is made for Associate Professor position.?
* (5)is applicable only when the appointment is made for Associate Professor position and is subject to approval from a concerned committee. ?
Research(Associate Professor 35%, Lecturer/Assistant Professor 50%)
(1)Upon appointment, the candidate needs to conduct academic research and deliver outputs in the forms of publications in academic journals and/or conference presentations.?
(2)The candidate needs to actively partake in research related endeavors and contribute to the development tourism studies research and its researcher community.?
(3)The candidate needs to apply for JSPS-Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research (Kakenhi) pertaining to Tourism (Specialization field).?
Social Outreach Activities
(Associate Professor 10% Lecturer/Assistant Professor 10%)
(1)Participating in and contributing to various social outreach activities with governmental, administrative, and industrial bodies, based on the candidate’s field of specialization.?
Administrative Duties
(Associate Professor 15% Lecturer/Assistant Professor 10%)
(1)Administrative duties pertaining to the relevant Faculty/Graduate School and/or at the University level, as well as duties related to Entrance Examinations.?
(2)Duties related to the management of the Global Program, and various internationalization initiatives of the Faculty/Graduate School.?

6.Qualifications
The following requirements must be fulfilled
(1)PhD in Tourism Studies, Business Management, Economics, Commerce (or related fields for PhDs from non-Japanese institutions), or persons with equivalent achievements. For Assistant Professor, those awaiting PhD degree certificate may apply.?
(2)Willingness to contribute to the development of tourism research.?
(3)Peer-reviewed publications in academic journals.
(4)Ability to teach classes, instruct research, and supervise dissertations in English. Willingness to conduct academic research.?
(5)Willingness to contribute to the management of the Graduate School and Faculty of Tourism based on the mission of the Faculty.?
7.Job particulars
Full time:The position of Associate Professor is tenured. Retirement age is 65 years.?
For Lecturer/Assistant Professor levels, the appointment will be based on a 5 years Tenure-Track basis. If tenure is approved within 5 years, the appointment will be changed to permanent in status at that point. The requirement for obtaining tenure can be fulfilled upon a favorable screening result at the Tenure Evaluation, and will be based on the achievements accumulated on yearly basis during the tenure-track period. Tenured permanent positions have a retirement age of 65 years (details are in conformity with the Tenure-Track system of Wakayama University). Upon acquiring tenure, the effort in major duties will change.?
The first 6 months of the appointment (for all levels) will be a trail period.?
Working hours will be calculated based on the Discretionary Labor System for Professional Work standard: 5 days a week basic working hours: 0830-1715 (7hrs 45 mins/day).?
Holidays: Saturday-Sunday, National Holidays, Year-end/New-year breaks(12/29~1/3)(Specific dates as per faculty working rules of Wakayama University.)
8.Allowances
Salary:Annual Salary System based on the Wakayama University (National University) faculty working condition standard. For additional details please refer to Clause 13~Clause 15 for Tenure-Track positions in the case the appointment is made for Lecturer/Assistant Professor Level.?

Associate Professor:JPY 6,000,000~8,000,000
Lecturer:JPY 5,000,000~6,000,000
Assistant Professor:JPY 4,000,000~5,000,000
