Detailed History of the Faculty of Economics
October 1922 | Wakayama Higher Commercial School was established in Sekido (currently Nishi Takamatsu) area, Wakayama City. |

March 1944 | The Higher Commercial School was reorganized as Wakayama Higher School of Economics. The Wakayama Higher School of Technology was established. |
May 1949 | The Faculty of Economics, Wakayama University, was established under the reformed educational system. |
April 1954 | The commercial teacher training course was established within the faculty. [Abolished in March 2000]. The Junior College of Economics (Management Department), Wakayama University, was established. [Closed in September 1996] |
April 1957 | The Advanced Course for Accounting and Management was established within the faculty. [Closed in March 1966] |
April 1964 | The Economic Department and the Business Administration Department were established, thus organizing a two-department system. |
April 1965 | The Department of Industrial Engineering was established. [Closed in March 2000] |
April 1966 | The Graduate School of Economics was established, which consisted of Master's course in Theoretical Economics and Economic History. [Reorganized as Master’s course in Economics from April 1968). |
April 1968 | The master's course in Business Administration, Graduate School of Economics, was established. |
April 1970 | The Advanced Course of Economics (Industrial Technology Major) was established [Closed in March 1999]. |
September 1987 | Moved to the new campus in Sakaedani area, Wakayama City. |
October 1992 | Daytime (Main) Course and Evening (Main) Course were established [Stopped admission acceptance in 2007]. Business Management Department (reorganized from the Business Administration Department) was established. Social System Design Department was also established [Closed in September 2002]. |
April 1996 | The Market Environment Department was established. |
April 1999 | Master’s Course in Market and Environment, Graduate School of Economics, was established. |
April 2007 | The Department of Tourism was established [Reorganized to the Faculty of Tourism in April 2008] |
April 2016 | The Faculty of Economics was reorganized from three departments to one department with educational programs. |
The 90th Anniversary Ceremony was held in October 2012.
