Educational Programs in the Economics Department
The undergraduate programs offer students the opportunity to acquire fundamental specialized knowledge, and develop broader perspectives on economic activities and business enterprises. Each program includes an integrated set of course subjects in related disciplines, which are meant to promote not only the technical skills and abilities, but also the level of critical thinking and standard levels of competency needed to lead successful careers.
The program curriculum is organized around a number of teaching modules, which feature compulsory and selective classes as well as seminars and communication skills classes.
Global Business and Economy
This program focuses on acquiring knowledge in economics and business administration from the global perspective, which complements knowledge from the theoretical and regional perspectives.
There is indeed a growing need for global human resources to design and implement global strategies by major Japanese firms and international conglomerates.
Students are expected to develop the necessary critical thinking and communication skills in order to play an active role at global companies, overseas branches of Japanese SMEs, and international organizations, including NPOs and NGOs, among others.
Business Design
This program focuses on the academic fields of business administration and information technology.
It presents students with the opportunity to gain knowledge in business innovation and new business design, which are playing a crucial role in solving many social and economic problems.
In addition to the theoretical foundations, practical courses are also offered in collaboration with private companies, start-up firms and public organizations.
Future career paths include important positions at the planning department of private or public organizations, intra-entrepreneurship, consulting, business and social entrepreneurship, and system analysis.
Business Accounting and Tax Law
This program is founded on the intrinsic relation between the major educational fields of accounting and law.
The principal objective is to nurture human resources with good knowledge of business accounting as well as legal expertise.
Students are expected to develop theoretical and practical knowledge that will enable them to deal effectively with an increasingly complicated and diversified business environment and legal framework.
The specialized knowledge in tax law and accounting will enable graduates from this program to pursue promising careers as certified public accountants, tax accountants, real-estate appraisers, and public officers at national or local administrations, as well as professional positions at accounting and financial departments of private and public companies.
Regional Public Policy and Public Benefit Service
This program focuses on the intersection between the educational fields of economics and law.
The main objective is to develop human resources capable of providing viable solutions to the growing demographic and economic challenges faced by regional and local communities, such as falling birth rates, aging societies, declining industrial activities, and fading commercial city centres.
Students are presented with a range of theoretical and practical subjects centred on public policy, public services, and policymaking principles, and field work sessions, aimed at grasping a good understanding of the economics and legal aspects of local administration, regional revitalization policies, tow development, and social welfare, among others.
The program opens avenues for job opportunities related to policymaking at local governments, public utilities, and think tanks.
Economy and Sustainability
This program rests at the intersection of the main educational fields of economics, law, and business administration.
The objective is to develop human resources capable of providing solutions to the persistent challenges of human and economic development.
Sustainable development requires a good understanding of the nature and significance of risks related to imbalanced economic growth, income inequality, shift in economic power, rapid depletion of natural resources, and demographic transformations, among others.
The main subjects focus on the interrelated issues of international relations, international trade, economic development, social security, and social responsibility, among others.
Students are expected to achieve a sufficient level of awareness about sustainability, and develop critical thinking and analytical skills that will enable them to pursue interesting career paths in private and government organizations, as well as NPOs, NGOs, and international organizations concerned with sustainable development and social responsibility.
Expert Course
The Expert Course is to provide students with excellent academic performance and promising potential, a unique opportunity to deepen their knowledge in particular areas of interest, develop their level of critical thinking and analytical skills, strengthen their research capabilities, and complete the requirements for a Master degree from the graduate school of economics within a five-year educational program.
The principal objective of the Expert Course is to bridge the skills gap and nurture human resources with the necessary balance between theory and practice, and between general knowledge and specialized expertise, and with the ability to leave an immediate impact on society.
